What we're building

This is the product direction, written the way a customer would say it. The backlog builds up to this page by page: the lists and pages come first, and the calculations come online as the team learns them. If a story serves none of what is written here, question it.

piDSS is a website for a solar company in Barbados

Here's what it does by the end of the project.

A customer signs up and lists the stuff they run at their business: ACs, fridges, computers, whatever. They can also add solar panels, inverters or batteries they already own, and say how much free space they have and what they can spend right now. Then the site tells them what a solar setup would actually do for them: how big a system they need, what their light bill looks like with solar, what the power company pays for the extra they send back, and how long the whole thing takes to pay for itself. If the full system is too much, it plans the build in stages that fit the budget instead.

If the numbers look good, they pick a package (each one supports different things), maybe add a maintenance plan, and get put in touch with an installer to do the work.

On the company side there are pages to manage all of it: the equipment catalogue, products, services, suppliers, installers, technicians, packages and plans. The rates and prices behind the math sit in the database, so when the power company changes its numbers somebody just edits the data. No code changes, no hardcoded math.

How it works, step by step

  1. Sign up and record your details.
  2. List your equipment, plus any solar you already own and the space you have free.
  3. Get your numbers: system size, bills with and without solar, export earnings, incentives, savings and payback.
  4. Pick a package and maybe a maintenance plan.
  5. Get matched with an installer and their technicians.
